Ten local garments companies will showcase world-class manufacturing capabilities at Sourcing at MAGIC 2010, the premier trade event in North America for the production and supply side of the global apparel industry, on 16-19 August 2010 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Nevada, USA.

Led by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), an attached agency of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Philippine participation to the event consists of: Burlington Industries (socks and basic undergarments); Fausto Garments (children's dresses, infant sets, hand embroidery); Games & Garments International Inc. (sports and casual wear, sweaters, outerwear); Gorgeous Apparel Mfg. Corp. (children's wear, ladies' wear, undergarments); Rama Garments Corp. (ladies' and men's wear); RK Manufacturing (ladies', men's, and children's wear); Scarlet Lines (ladies', men's, and children's wear); Sebastianne Creations, Inc. (home textiles, garments, fashion wearables); Thread of Hope (THEA Inc.) (ladies' and children's sleepwear); and Worldwide Apparel (sportswear, casual wear, children's wear, lingerie).

"The Philippine garments industry has come a long way towards establishing its position as the second biggest dollar-earning sector in the Philippines," said Thelma Dumpit-Murillo, Deputy Executive Director of CITEM. "With a large creative workforce capable of producing apparel with designs and patterns at par with the world's best, competitive cost-efficiency, and the ability to adapt to technological innovations, we are ready to take on the world," she added.

The industry currently supplies brands such as GAP, Old Navy, Ann Taylor, Liz Claiborne, and Ralph Lauren, to name a few. Government initiatives and innovations such as the Electronic Visa Information System (ELVIS) designed to improve speed-to-market capability to cater to U.S. stakeholders and the compliance to internationally accepted social and labor standards make the Philippines the first Asian country to implement social responsibility in manufacturing clothes.
